For the most part we all work 9-5 (ish). But if you had your choice what would your pefect day be? Also what would your work space consist of? I am way more of an early morning person (thanks mom and dad!) than an afternoon person. I just am more focused for some reason. Maybe it’s the getting up at 5amish. So I would love an earlier schedule
So if (if? I mean when) I rule the world the work day would be 6-2. I mean think about it…especially those of you that drive for your commute. No more rush hour traffic jams! Plus done at 2 means you get the entire afternoon off. Of course that would mean missing the cutest morning baby in the mornings. Oh I’m talking about Lucy of course. She is so hilarious in the mornings. But she also sleeps until about 7ish. My dad always left for work at the crack ass of dawn but would leave me little math puzzles every morning and it was just what it was. My mom….I don’t think she would leave so early…although maybe she did and then my stepmom saw me onto the bus. Jeezus I had so many different living arrangements in my life so I don’t remember (divorced parents + lots of moving). I don’t know. It’s an idea anyways….and actually it would only be my company that would follow that schedule because if the whole world follows that schedule well then you just have rush hour at different hours…which I could care less about since I don’t have to deal with that and so I would be happy with the better hours. ANYWAYS. Wow. Can you say rambling?
Also I would build offices that were all glass so that we could see the freakin’ sun! Part of the office here does have nice big windows. But what I don’t understand is that there are cubicles near those and the wide open developer space is tucked back as far away from the windows as you could get. Maybe most developers don’t like the sun…who knows. What is your work space like? I make sure to get out for at least a walk especially in the summers. Jason and I only work about 3 blocks from each other and so we meet for a walk for coffee or for lunch sometimes. Today Dad is bringing little Lu downtown for lunch so that’ll be awesome. Hopefully it’ll be nice and we can take her over to millenium park again.
In other Lucille new (that’s right in this post alone I’ve called her three different things…in general we call her Lucille, Lucy, Lu, Luce, Luey (that’s a new one…and that’s right a parenthesis within a parenthesis) so she has a lot of nicknames which is cute). we got her to stand up while holding onto a foot stool thing. We tried first with the coffee table but were worried, rightly so, that she would fall forward and split her lip. She can stand for like 10 seconds by herself holding herself up. But then her little legs get tired and start to shake. It’s so cute because when she’s standing the look on her face is one of, “Wait what…there is another level from sitting?!?!”. She sits up like a champ, rarely falling over and can somehow move around the floor. We don’t quite know what she’s doing but she’ll be in one place and then all of a sudden we are like, wait…what is she doing over there?
Ok. back to attempting refactoring…although there is murmurings of a beta site meaning starting completely over with the CSS and the views. Who knows if that will actually happen. I’m hoping it will…but also hoping that there is a clear goal of what the site is going to be so we don’t have a, “Wait….hold the phones. We want this other kind of functionality” and then the whole idea is blown. Going to try and make sure that all components (back end devs, front end devs, creative and QA) work more together this time. We’ll see.

For people living in Chicago with their kids in CPS, a 6 – 2 schedule would be perfect as school gets out about 2:30 I think. This would eliminate the need for an after school program and more time with mom and dad.
