Hey hey hey 5am. You are so pretty!
I really like getting up early.
I don’t like when I can’t get anything done.
Jason and I tried to play ProjectEuler in javascript this morning. This is by far the weakest of the three languages that we are working with for both of us. This is bad for me in my day job because as a front end developer this has to be stronger. I’m solid on html/css because I get a ton of experience with it, but javascript is another story.
So we were going to test drive it per our plan and decided to use jspec. But there is something wrong with my computer in that when I do a gem install it puts the gem in some weird folder (/opt/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/bin) instead of the default of (/opt/local/bin). I have had this problem in the past and my hacky fix is to jut put a sim link in in the right directory to the one where the gems are being placed. So that’s cool. (Well not really but I don’t know how to fix it.)
But then…and here is where the wold can really see how dumb I am. But in my experience there is no point of just not asking because you might look dumb. Ok. Not dumb…but you get my point.
So I do the jspec init new_project and I get a response of: “Error opening script file: /Users/lrieger/projecteuler/ex_1/script/spec (No such file or directory)”
Now that’s before doing my awesome hacky shit. So if I put in a sm link and do it again I get the same error. BUT if I do sudo jspec init new_project it works. But then of course this sets up all kinds of problems saving files and whatever. I did get it to “work” but I couldn’t add new files and so yeah, not so much.
Any tips out there? Why would gems be put in that weird place. I also tried to add the specific gem location in the .profile file and that didn’t help. Perhaps I’ll travel to geekfest at Obtiva today with my laptop and see if I can get some help.
In non software news….I don’t actually have any. Lucy was pretty good all day I guess and then was a little cranky for us. Then we gave her a bath and she was super happy. Then did her changing routine and she was still happy so we tried to read her a book. And wow. She was *not* a fan. I mean hello screaming can’t catch your breath hysterics. So obviously we gave up on the reading, but she couldn’t calm down. I went to nurse her and she was just Not. Happy. It took about 10 minutes to calm her down enough so she could eat. It was weird. But then she slept for about 11 hours. She did squawk at about 4am but put herself back to sleep and then we went into her room around 6:30 and she had one of her ridiculous legs sticking through the crib bars. Which was hilarious. I think she just doesn’t like the evenings because she’s super happy during the day. Which makes me sad because I see about an hour of happy baby a day. Maybe 2 if I’m lucky.
